Learning and Development
In 2014 I was working as a full-time teacher and was asked to join the New Life for Haiti Board of Directors as "Operation Better Learning" trustee, after traveling to Haiti with the organization. My task was to study the five schools built by this international nonprofit organization to determine why many students at the schools were struggling to learn to read. I assembled and led a team of American teachers with master's degrees and PhDs, who spent almost two years, first working to understand where the learning was breaking down, then designing a school called the School of Hope. The School of Hope now serves as a model of rural education in Haiti. Everything about this school - its philosophy, methodology, best practices, training and evaluation procedures, etc. was designed by this team.
After the School of Hope opened in 2016, I continued to lead teams of American teachers to Haiti to train Haitian teachers in best educational practices and sound instructional methodology during summer intensives. This took the form of ILT (and eventually vILT when teams could no longer travel due to political unrest in the country.) After being hired full-time by the organization, I also traveled to Haiti to personally conduct ongoing professional development throughout several school years with Haitian teachers.

In 2021, I designed, co-authored, and self-published a teacher's manual in Haitian Creole, for Haitian teachers, to give them a resource for best practices in instructional methodology and curriculum design.
